Since March 1, 2026 we have had
74 intakes,
60 adopted (81%adoption rate)
2/7 strays returned to owner.

In the past 12 months we have had
202 intakes
181 adoptions (89% adoption rate)
7/26 strays returned to owner

This means we have 11-19% of all intakes are not adopted, hence, stay with us each year. So, we need over 100% of intakes adopted this year to keep from being at capacity all year round. We are slowly becoming like dog and cat shelters; at capacity and at a point we can only take in strays.

Help us continue to be able to take in all tortoises who need us. Help us get more adopted, find more adopters. Tell everyone you know to adopt don't shop! Don't get a pet without learning how to care for it first, have a plan for lifetime care, have the right, secure environment.

Most of the tortoises we get are due to the owner buying without learning first. The sellers tell them what helps them make a sale, not the truth of the animals needs. Help us stop this cycle.
