Hey, everyone! What’s growin on?! While sitting on my front porch steps, enjoying my coffee, I see this guy. It sparkles in the sunlight due to silver metallic flecks. It’s beautiful! What is it? It’s a variegated fritillary caterpillar. This is why it’s important to not clean up your yard until spring. Soon, this critter will cocoon and emerge in the spring. Let your future butterflies rest this winter. You will not regret it. And, as always, let’s get wild!

If you bought any of my seed packets, and you plan to plant this fall, this is what next June will look like for you. The black-eyed Susan’s and yarrow are in bloom right now.
The mower has been down for two weeks. Pre-native plant nerd me would have been quite vexed by this shaggy yard. Native plant nerd me loathes to cut it and possibly kill all the fireflies. I do love watching them take flight at twilight…while listening to a pug pant. 🥰
