At Geekmatics, we are all about fixing things and protecting what’s important—and nothing is more important than our furry family members. As proud supporters of dog rescue, we want to remind everyone that tonight is the loudest, most stressful night of the year for pets. More pets go missing on July 4th than any other day.

Before the fireworks start, here is your essential safety checklist to protect your four-legged co-pilots:

⏰ Early Dinner: Feed them earlier than usual. Sudden loud noises can cause major stomach upset, so it’s best to let them eat and digest in peace before the booms begin.

🌙 Early Potty Break: Take them out for a long walk and their final potty break well before sunset while it’s still light out.

🔒 Strict Lockdown: Once they are inside, keep them inside. Double-check that all doors, windows, and patio screens are securely locked. Even the most confident, well-trained dogs can panic and bolt when a loud mortar goes off nearby.

🎶 Crank the White Noise: Set up a safe, cozy interior room away from windows. Turn on a loud fan, a TV, or a white noise machine to help mask the sudden crashes outside, and pull the blinds to block bright flashes.

🍔 Guard the BBQ Scraps: Keep the party food out of reach. Cooked bones, greasy scraps, onions, and garlic can cause severe illness, and discarded foil or skewers are major hazards.

Rescue Tip: Double-check that your pet's collar is on and their ID tags or microchip details are completely up-to-date right now, just in case.
