Idk who needs to hear this, but learn to apologize to your kids.

I had to apologize to my daughter the other day because I genuinely felt guilty for my attitude. I was simply exhausted and emotional from being pregnant, but that still doesn’t mean she deserved it.

That may not seem like a big deal to some people, but moments like that help to teach our kids that it’s okay to say sorry, take accountability, and recognize when we’re wrong. It makes them more comfortable doing so themselves. It removes that stigma of an apology being a form of defeat.

We live in a world full of adults who don’t know how to apologize when they know they’re wrong or hurt someone. Of course we should give ourselves grace for being human, but this is just a reminder that apologizing doesn’t make you weaker or lesser than.

If anything, it makes you better because you’re willing to take accountability for your actions.
& this is something the next generation really needs to see. A lot of us grew up knowing to respect adults regardless of how they felt, as anyone should practice, but imagine also growing up witnessing adults knowing how to apologize when they were wrong.

Today at SCHS was Legacy Day. This special tradition started last year, where graduating seniors get to meet kindergarten students from the surrounding feeder schools. It was such a beautiful moment, but also bittersweet for me since my daughter is a kindergartener, and so many seniors graduating this year are students I’ve taught throughout the years. 🥹
