Most wrestlers think the takedown starts with the shot.

Daniel Cormier says it starts with the setup.

At this seminar, DC breaks down one of his favorite ways to enter the high crotch. Instead of throwing a right hand and forcing the shot, he uses a lead hook to get his opponent moving in the direction he wants.

His breakdown:

1️⃣ Throw the lead hook.

2️⃣ As your opponent reacts, use your trigger foot, change levels, drive your shoulder into the body, and secure the high crotch.

3️⃣ Finish the takedown.

Simple, but that’s what separates elite wrestlers from everyone else. They don’t just shoot. They create the reaction they want first, then capitalize on it.

DC’s biggest point wasn’t the takedown itself. It was understanding how to make your opponent move into the position you need before you ever attack.
