Phishing Friday Alert: Critical infrastructure is under attack
One of the biggest cybersecurity trends in 2026 is the sharp increase in phishing attacks targeting critical infrastructure sectors such as healthcare organizations, energy & utility providers, and financial institutions.
What’s alarming? Many of these major breaches started with something as simple as a email.
Cybercriminals know that disrupting essential services can create massive financial, operational, and even public safety impacts. By tricking just one employee into clicking a malicious link, opening an infected attachment, or entering credentials into a fake login page, attackers can gain a foothold inside an organization's network.
Why this matters:
• Patient records and healthcare systems can be compromised
• Power and utility operations can be disrupted
• Financial institutions can suffer data theft and service outages
• Critical services that communities rely on can be affected
Phishing Prevention Tips:
• Verify unexpected emails before clicking links
• Be cautious of urgent requests or scare tactics
• Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
• Report suspicious emails immediately
• Participate in regular security awareness training
Remember: It only takes one click to start an attack, but it only takes one informed employee to stop one.
