Truly looking forward to debuting Azure’s and new film series, Films From Here, with MORE THAN THE RAINBOW. In collaboration with we will be holding a Q&A with and the film’s subject .weber.photos

Directed by Daniel Wechsler, this 2012 documentary film surveys the life and practice of Matt Weber, a former taxi driver turned acclaimed street photographer in New York City.

“Reflecting upon photography at the end of the analog age, the film is highlighted by gorgeous 35mm montage sequences set to the music of jazz legend Thelonious Monk. Weber’s extraordinary photographs will resonate long after the film is over.”

One more week to view Qinza Najm’s newest body of stunning mixed media metal works at Homage!

A multi disciplinary artist who was recently mentioned in the Financial Times for her performance piece at Clio Art Fair, strikingly weaves her cultural heritage and experience from both Pakistan and the US. She is “fascinated by how cultural norms and laws shape our experience of the body as a political subject. My work seeks to explore the nuances of contemporary narratives through the materiality of everyday objects, focusing on the South Asian metal trunk, called "Peyti", as a metaphor for the concepts of migration, displacement, and belonging.”

Qinza’s work happens to hold a special place for me. As a Jewish curator, I initially sought out Qinza for another exhibition in which Jewish and Muslim artists showcase their works side by side with the aim of inciting dialogue surrounding similar diasporic experiences, belonging, and unspoken cultural commonalities.

However, in deliberating on artists for Homage, I realized her practice of utilizing many alternative, some quotidian, materials—those specific to her homeland— was perfect. “I seek to create a space for critical reflection and engagement with questions that affect us all,” Najm says.

Works available to view through June 14th at .space (150 Centre St., BK)
