Betsy Capes, CPCC, is a certified career coach who founded Capes Coaching in April 2004. After spending five years casting and directing theatre while coaching actors and artists on the side, she began to notice a significant trend in the industry: artists spending all of their time and resources honing their craft, yet feeling helpless when it came to actually making a living in their chosen fiel

Twenty years ago, before it was The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, it was a scrappy little show called Crepuscule. I was one of the lucky few to bear witness to its earliest days in a downtown black box theater — watching those quirky, big-hearted characters take shape without any idea how far they’d travel.

Sitting in the audience yesterday, I felt time collapse a little — the jokes still sharp, the tenderness still right there in the same spots all these years later, and a whole new crowd leaning in. “The I Love You Song” somehow lands even deeper now, especially as a parent.

There’s something extraordinary about art that grows up alongside you — and stands the test of time.

Such a treat to see it with family — especially and — and to bring our daughters along, with Dan’s mom and his aunt. A whole new generation experiencing a show shaped by him and the original creators. Cheers to all of them. 💛

Jeff and I sat down years ago to craft a cover letter that helped him land a meeting with his first agent. Quite a lot has happened since then! And now… here he is, author of a brilliant memoir, reminding the world how much persistence, heart, and humor it takes to make it in this business.

To be a small part of that journey? Deeply meaningful. Jeff, I couldn’t be prouder. 💛

We voted early and Daddy’s been traveling so much for work he was the first in line to vote this morning in town. Let’s do this! 🗳️🙌

In 2014, as and I were grappling how to balance motherhood and running a business, we were smart enough to know it had something to do with tailoring my Path curriculum to a community of mothers.

We gathered our mom friends to do the brave work of creating our own Paths forward. Over the years, I have held many Path Moms groups since, and they have been filled with amazing women. Truly!

But there must have been something in the water we were all drinking ten years ago, because this specific collection of moms that makes up our inaugural Path Moms group has continued to reunite for group coaching every year since. Returning to each other for connection, renewal and reminders of who they are and what each of them are capable of. Strengthening their bond each time we gather.

(It’s rare to get the entire group together each time - this reunion we missed you deeply , & !!)

I have to touch on something almost indescribable that happens when this group gathers. This is something I notice with my long-time clients: having a history with someone (or in this case, a group) whom you have a deep shared trust and connection with, and who have had the privilege to bear witness to your personal struggles, triumphs and growth over time…THIS is one of the greatest gifts we can give each other. To see and be seen by people who know what you have lived through, and continue to champion you on, through the next chapter of life. Again, it’s hard to put into words, but it’s palpable.

So it’s no surprise to me that yesterdays Path retreat was filled with deep connection, true reverence for each others stories, powerful coaching (bc these mamas know how to hold space for each other and get to the heart and soul of the work!) and ultimately brilliant insights, clarity and inspiration to carry us into tomorrow.

I’m left today with a visceral sense of the collective power of women on the eve of this election, and I remain grateful for the opportunity to do what I love with ALL the Wonder Women I get to work alongside of ⚡️💪❤️
