Children & teens in Kenya, India, Colombia, Afghanistan, Haiti, Zambia, Pakistan, Uganda, Rwanda, & the US have followed our Memory Keepers Project lessons and guidance to interview elders in their communities for stories about their lives. The goal is to preserve stories creatively and humanely, using the teachings as a North Star to guide each of the participants into an ethical, caring and resilient life of their own.

The Sue Meigs Award is presented to an author who exemplifies empathy, love, and care for children. Like Sue Meigs, the Sue Meigs Children’s Champion uses the power of stories to protect, defend, and inspire a child to be their truest self. We are so proud to have presented this award to author Kate Messner, whose work and advocacy have so benefitted children, through World Read Aloud Day and now through The Memory Keeper’s Project. Thank you Kate for all the work you do, and thank you to Sue Meigs, who we miss deeply and for whom we created this special honor.
