Why do we treat strangers better than people close to us

God could have placed Christ in a wealthy family

The Bible never explicitly says why God chose a carpenter’s family, but when you look at God’s pattern throughout Scripture, a few themes emerge.

First, God often chooses the humble rather than the powerful.

He chose:

* A shepherd boy, David, instead of a king’s son.
* A stuttering fugitive, Moses, instead of an Egyptian prince.
* Fishermen rather than scholars to be apostles.

By sending Christ through a carpenter’s household, God demonstrated that salvation is for everyone, not just the wealthy, educated, or influential.

Second, had Jesus been born into a wealthy ruling family, people might have followed Him because of political power or economic advantage. Instead, He came with no earthly status.

As the prophet foretold:

“He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him.”
— Isaiah 53

People had to evaluate His message, not His social position.

Third, Jesus needed to fully identify with ordinary people.

A carpenter’s home knew hard work, bills, fatigue, and uncertainty. Christ understood the struggles of common people not merely as God looking down from heaven, but as one who lived among them.

When Jesus taught about daily bread, labor, taxes, and suffering, He wasn’t speaking from a palace.

Finally, God’s choice reveals His kingdom values:

“God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”

This was written by Paul the Apostle in First Corinthians.

The birth of Christ is almost a declaration from heaven:

“Do not mistake wealth for favor, nor status for significance.”

God could have placed Jesus in Caesar’s palace. Instead, He placed Him in a manger and entrusted Him to a carpenter. The message seems to be that God’s greatest work often begins in places the world overlooks.

In a way, the carpenter’s shop in Nazareth was God’s statement that He is interested in the condition of a person’s heart more than the size of their bank account.
