Another terrible chimney fire and story

Scariest night of our lives. We all were sound asleep together, keeping warm in the family room. Power still out and 14* out. Jon happened to wake up at midnight and notice the fire was out and looked outside and noticed something orange sparkling in the ice filled trees. Went out to check and saw our chimney on fire and spreading to the whole roof. He ran in, screaming to get all 11 dogs and in the car immediately. We left with nothing but our babies and watched our house explode QUICKLY over 30 minutes. The fire department that is only 1 mile away took 30 minutes to get to us because of down trees from this crazy ice storm. House could have been saved if the roads were clear. We were so close to dying. We have amazing neighbors who came to our rescue at 1am and are trying to figure out what's next. Homeless with 11 dogs doesn't give u many options. With all of the fireplace use, we are seeing and responding to lots of chimney and structure fires. Please have your chimney and fireplace inspected by someone that is certified in chimney inspections and codes. Not a handy man, not a contractor, not an HVAC person. They are all good for their specific trade. Chimneys and fireplaces are very, very different. Lots of the fires are due to poor workmanship, bad installations, lack of annual maintenance. These pictures are from today. A fireplace that had been improperly installed and never had maintenance. The walls and surrounding area had caught fire but the homeowner didnt even realize it.
Lastly, make sure the company showing up has uniformed technicians and trucks with the name of the company you called on the phone. There are several company’s that can be found on Google that are not real and they sub out your inspection or cleaning to anyone that will take it. You will know because they drive white vans , no name and their techs have no identification on them.
