Yes, yes I know - I totally started a new thing, got you all excited, and then ghosted - and right before holiday gift giving season no less. But I had an important quest I was working on.

My best friend lost her Dad in 2025, and she commissioned me to make some memory items for her family for their first Christmas without him, and without hesitation I jumped right in.

His name is John and he was a retired crane operator, a collector of Wheel Horses (aka his "Ponies"), and a truck fanatic. Using the shirts and bandanas he poured his literal blood sweat and tears into, I was able to make 2 quilts, 3 pillows, and a dozen seatbelt covers for her family to hold and remember him by.

I had never made any of these items before, but am really proud of the way they turned out! As I was making everything I could hear his voice in astonishment "Katie-Girl, you made that?! Gol dang."

John passed one year ago today. He's soaring with the eagles now - gone but not forgotten 🤍🦅 Fly high, John 🎈

🚨🎈 Today, from Noon - 4pm // it may be colder out today, but you know what's good for that? Sweatshirts & sweaters - and boy is this market full of them. Even better that everything is vintage and broken in and soft like a warm hug. And who doesn't like a good hug? See you soon, buds.

Hello! My name is Kate and I'm an avid thrifter & lover of all things vintage, especially textiles with fun & vibrant colors, quilts, and patchwork. The majority of the materials I use are second hand, either from a thrift store, garage/estate sale, or my family heirloom stash. In a world of fast fashion, I love the idea of giving textiles a second (or third or fourth ) life in an effort to keep them out of a landfill for as long as possible. 🌎♻️

I've been sewing on & off most of my life with the help of my mom, and have recently rekindled our hobby to stay creative and spend more time together. By "day" I book & run music events with my other company , so you could say that my brain is wired for puzzles, art, and chaos 🧩

Scrappy Bits is baby brand new, so I don't have a website or online store yet, but...stay tuned!! If you see something you like please DM me for pricing and more information. I'm based in IA/IL Quad Cities and will post any local markets I'll be at for in-person shopping as well.
