The role of "Executive Sponsor" is completely misused by almost every firm. All too often, vendors refer to the highest ranking person in a meeting as the prospect's "executive sponsor." All this title usually means is that the executive will call the prospect at the time of signing a contract...and then will try to become their best friend should the prospect/now-customer threaten to churn.
