First, understand that I am NOT talking about . This post is covering endometriTIS which is inflammation of the uterine lining.

It is estimated that 10% of the general population has this hidden chronic infection!

For women who have experienced recurrent implantation failure or recurrent pregnancy loss with assisted reproductive technology the estimate is significantly higher. (42% PMID: 28090456)

For women who have experienced three or more pregnancy losses the rate or chronic endometritis may be as high as 57.8%!

The acute form of the infection is actually the most common postpartum infection and is more common among women who have a c-section or group B strep.

But what if this acute infection is left to turn into a chronic infection? It could be a hidden underlying reason for secondary infertility.

Right now the only way to test for endometritis is by endometrial biopsy. But treating the infection does increase rates of fertility!

But unfortunately testing for endometritis is still not routinely performed. If any of this rings true for you, it is worth talking to your doctor about testing and treatment!

All of this just highlights the importance of the ecological balance of microbes throughout the body. Your uterus is not sterile! And the important role of the immune system in fertility!
