They think it’s a compliment—but it’s not.

“You’re so passionate about this” can sound supportive, but in corporate speak, it often means:
🛑 You’re being too much.
🛑 You’re making others uncomfortable.
🛑 Back off.

Here’s how to respond with clarity and composure:

👉 “Yes, I care deeply—and I’m bringing data to support it.”

👉 “I lead with conviction because I believe this deserves attention.”

Passion isn’t a liability.
Don’t shrink to make others more comfortable.

Expertise speaks louder than uncertainty—here’s how to reframe your introduction.

Skip vague phrases like “I’m in transition” or “I’m between jobs.” These can unintentionally signal uncertainty or lack of direction.

Instead, use language that reflects your value and experience:

“I’m an expert in marketing and exploring new opportunities where I can contribute and grow.”

Here are more swaps that build credibility:

❌ I’m currently unemployed
✅ I bring 10+ years of experience in [field] and I’m excited to bring that to a new team

❌ I’m job hunting right now
✅ I’m focused on [industry] roles where I can leverage my strengths in [specific skill]

❌ I’m figuring out my next steps
✅ I’m connecting with companies that align with my passion for [specific area]

The language you use shapes how others see you—make sure it reflects your strengths.
