It’s easy to scroll through someone’s social media and decide they’re doing great. They’re traveling, smiling, succeeding, working out, dressed up, laughing… and without even realizing it, we begin filling in the blanks with a story we’ve created. We think, They must be happy. They have it all together. They have the perfect life.
But the truth is, you have absolutely no idea what someone is carrying behind a single photo.
That’s why I’ve become so careful about making assumptions. The strongest person in the room may be hanging on by a thread. The happiest-looking person may have cried all the way there. The person who seems distant may simply be exhausted. The one who never asks for help may have learned that asking wasn’t safe.
Social media is a collection of moments, not the full story of a human being. Instead of comparing yourself to what you think someone else’s life looks like, remember that everyone is fighting battles you may never see. And instead of judging people for how they appear, choose curiosity, compassion, and kindness.
You never know what it took for someone to smile for that photo.
If you’re struggling behind your own smile, I want you to know you’re not alone. Healing doesn’t require pretending everything is okay. It starts the moment you find a safe place where you no longer have to carry it all by yourself.
If you’re ready for that, I’d love to help.
