I believe we could all benefit from something I call a "Reflective Communication Practice" to transform the following truth.

Short version (for the distracted among us)

Learned Helplessness + Self Victimization = Mass Disempowerment and Endless Social Division

Longer version (for the less distracted among us)

1. Some of our homes and education systems (run by "ADULTS") teach conformity, obedience, subservience and risk-aversion — conditioning CHILDREN to believe their experience, efforts, talents and ideas have little power to change broader outcomes, which is the root of learned helplessness.

2. At the same time, some homes & religious/spiritual traditions (led by "ADULTS") subtly reinforce self-victimization by focusing on fundamental unworthiness, or the necessity of unnecessary suffering for the promise of peace and contentment in some ambiguously distant future (often after death, how unfortunate). This teaches CHILDREN to center their identity on being acted upon rather than actively shaping their own lives in this lifetime.

So.....

When these two forces collide, as we can clearly see happening right now, ADULTS in all types of positions of power and influence are constantly cycling between blaming external forces for their pain and believing they are powerless to change their circumstances.

This combination not only stalls personal agency, but makes society vulnerable to violence, manipulation, polarization, and cynicism—fueling the ruptures seen in public discourse and making authentic collective progress theoretical.... rather than actual!
