Even if I tried, I don’t think I could be all that different from my dad. And I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I cross my legs the way he does when he gets comfortable in a chair. I have the same great sense of humor that can crack you up even when you’re upset. We have the same trouble, more often than not, saying what we feel, even when it’s clear as water.

We are equally stubborn. We both feel the world deeply. We care. We make space. We feel a lot. We get the headaches and the lower back pain. But mostly, it’s all good.

Happy Father’s Day to the dad I got, and to the best one I could have asked for.

New glasses. Matching green shirt. A moment I actually paused for.

But I also wanted to share something that took more time.

I wrote a piece:

“Thoughts on Modern Life, Mortality and Identity.”

It came from sitting with questions I think many of us carry, but don’t always make space for.

What does it say about us
that we move so fast
we rarely stop to face
that this life is finite?
