The purpose of reading is comprehension — getting meaning from written text. Improving a student's reading comprehension is vital for success in their academic career. One way to drastically improve comprehension is practice, practice, practice! We encourage students to participate in R.E.D. Read Every Day!

I often get asked why teachers spend so much time on multiplication facts in elementary school. Without full mastery of the multiplication facts, kids struggle as they start to tackle division, fractions, and problems with larger numbers. They use so much of their working memory on simple calculations that they have little brain space left for understanding new concepts.
