90s, Payne founded The Persuaders organization to mentor male youth. With the number of single women raising sons on the rise, the program filled a void in the community. Later on, as the program matured, Payne added a component for young females as well.“I love mentoring both young men and young women, but it was exciting getting back to the original concept this summer,” said Payne who wrapped up “The Making of a Man” summer camp session on August 12th.  “There is such a big need for men to step up to the plate and be mentors for male youth. There is something about an all-male environment that just helps young men to feel comfortable discussing male topics.”The summer camp was focused on The Persuader’s three key principles - integrity, discipline, and education - and included “village talks” and “conversations young men never have with their fathers” sessions.
