My third Jazz poster illustration. This time one of my favourite jazz guitarists for a change, Wes Montgomery.

Montgomery had an unusual technique of only using his thumb to play which explains the softer sound which apparently he developed not to bother his neighbours or wake his children before his music career took off.
I play guitar myself and it’s crazy to me that he can do what he does that way, but I guess it’s funny how necessity shapes how you do things. I started out on a nylon strung Spanish guitar which kind of shaped how I play now.

I watched a great video on him on YouTube channel which is worth a watch if you’re interested in that sort of thing. I enjoyed learning how Montgomery structured his solos and things like that.

I’ve done him here with his gorgeous L-5 CES

I actually started this image over a year ago but after I got the basic composition I thought this is gonna take forever and dropped it 😂 I started back on it earlier this week and finally got it finished yesterday.
This style of poster illustration isn’t really my strong suit and I usually prefer working on something a bit more rough around the edges and maybe a little abstract, but back when I started doing film poster this sort of thing was so far away from my skill set that it seemed impossible. So every so often I give it a try.
Plus I’m always watching some Star Trek series or film and Wrath of Khan is one of my favourites.

A book cover I did a for Janelle Schieck’s new horror story Death Cult.

“It’s 1984 and within the bowels of a desert ghost town exists a bloodthirsty cannibal death cult.

Jason, Eddie, and Carrie are about to have a summer to die for.”
