Eve Bunting has written more than 200 books for children and young adults, but "Terrible Things," originally suggested for readers aged 5-8, is a book that should be read by people of all ages.
An allegory of the Holocaust, "Terrible Things" is "based on the premise that the Holocaust would not have happened had the civilians of Germany objected to their neighbors being harmed." In the book, woodland animals are being carried away, one type after another, by the "Terrible Things." We learn what is happening through the eyes of a child (Little Rabbit).
