Last night, as a storm brewed ominously west of Lubbock, a brave little soul named Brownie made the fateful decision to venture into a trap—one that would change her life forever. For far too long, she had roamed the streets of Levelland, battling the elements, dodging dangers, and desperately seeking the basics: food, water, and shelter. This sweet girl, once malnourished and weary, had endured the heartache of lost puppies and the harshness of life on the streets.

The journey to save Brownie began in March, when a dedicated team from Levelland Animal Friends heard about a starving pup that desperately needed help. Keri Love and Jill Pitts set out to find this sweet nugget and their 3 month journey to save her began.

On June 8th, HHAR headed west to set up a trap in hopes of catching Brownie. Unfortunately, a malfunctioning part stalled our efforts, forcing us to wait a couple days longer. We had to leave the trap open until we could go back with a functioning part. The ladies left food inside everyday —a tempting invitation that Brownie accepted, even welcoming a few furry visitors during her wait.

Fast forward to last night. With the storm clouds gathering and the stakes raised, I made my way back to Levelland, armed with renewed determination and a fully functioning trap. As I set up, Brownie was nowhere to be seen, but hope lingered in the air. Just as the thunder rumbled and the first drops of rain fell, she appeared, trotting down the street with an unknowing resolve. Drawn by the scent of chicken, she stepped into the trap, and with a loud click, the door closed behind her.

In that moment, everything changed for Brownie. Kerri and I rushed to secure her. Just as the skies unleashed a torrent of rain and hail, we moved Brownie to safety, away from the chaos, and then to a warm, loving foster home. There, she will finally receive the care she needs—time to decompress, get fully vetted, and ultimately find her forever family.

Brownie’s story is a testament to resilience and hope, a reminder that sometimes, the very traps we fear can lead to the greatest freedom. Now, instead of worrying about her next meal or shelter from the storm, she can focus on what truly matters: love, safety, and a brighter future. 🐾✨

Thank you ladies for allowing HHAR to be apart of Brownies story! 🫶🏼🐾

Good afternoon, fellow animal advocates,

I hope this message finds you energized and ready to make a difference!

At Helping Hands Animal Rescue, we’ve always had a soft spot for the underdogs—quite literally! While we started as a dedicated trapping team, our passion has since expanded to transport, fostering, and collaborating with other rescues. However, we’re eager to reignite our original mission: trapping. It’s time to get back to our roots and help the animals that need us the most.

Right now, we have an incredible opportunity to aid a brave rescuer in Littlefield, Texas. She is currently trying to get help for **20** who were abandoned at a local milk plant, including three courageous moms who have been left to navigate the harsh realities of life on the streets. These animals are facing severe challenges—weather, predators, food scarcity, and the dangers of busy roadways. They need our help now more than ever!

Here’s where the adventure begins: to safely trap these feral mothers and their puppies, Torie Rios need to secure **two retriever kennel enclosures**. Unfortunately, her aging kennels currently in use are no longer safe due to years of wear and exposure. Each new kennel costs $499, and we’re seeking your support to fund both.

Imagine the relief and joy when we can transport these animals to safety, away from the perils they face daily. Our team is ready to pick up the kennels, set them up, and dive into the trapping process, ensuring these precious souls find the loving homes they deserve.

Your contributions can make all the difference in this mission. Together, we can create a brighter future for these animals and give them the second chance they so desperately need. If you’re inspired to help or want to learn more about how you can get involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for being the heroes these animals need!
