Almost two years ago, our team read a book called When Helping Hurts that revolutionized the way we view poverty. In the west, we often focus on meeting material needs through relief and stopping the immediate “bleed.” Often, what is truly needed is cooperative development and rehabilitation that partners with the client in their restoration. At Love Lubbock, our client advocates are passionate about relationally helping those we serve. We aim to hear their story, provide immediate support, and also challenge towards the future. Beginning in 2025, these appointments will be available on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Saturdays of the month. On the 4th Saturdays, we will be hosting Client Engagement Conversations, which will be an opportunity for us to learn from our clients what they are seeing as the needs in their communities, and what they believe could inspire long-lasting restoration.
