The GRILL Lab investigates psychological health in aging and illness. More specifically, we examine the interconnection of the biopsychosocial processes within individuals with life limiting illnesses (e.g., cancer; dementia) and their caregivers. Last week, our lab participated in the 8th Annual Symposium on Brain Health hosted by the Center of Excellence for Translational Neuroscience and Therapeutics (CTNT) and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Garrison Institute on Aging. We enjoyed learning from keynote speaker Dr. Shreaya Chakroborty, Ph.D., from NIH National Institute on Aging.
Dr. Jonathan Singer, Ph.D., shared a talk regarding some of our ongoing studies titled, "Investigating the grieving brain utilizing unique methodologies." Dr. Singer received recognition for his contribution to the conference as an invited speaker.
Research coordinator Lauren C. shared a poster titled "Investigation of chronic pain biomarkers indicative of cognitive decline in rural Texas: A Project FRONTIER Study" for which she received the Best Poster Award for the clinical/human studies/tissue category.

Our team shared some of our ongoing research with our colleagues at , the annual conference hosted by the Association for Death Education and Counseling.
Graduate student Libby, research coordinator Amir, and research assistant Destiny held a symposium titled: "Grieving a Loss to Incarceration: An Examination of Grief Responses and Public Perceptions of Family Members of Incarcerated Individuals." This work was supervised by our lab PI, Jonathan Singer.
Libby also presented a poster titled: "Personality and Pre-Death Grief in Family Caregivers of Persons with Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementias" for which she received the Richard Kalish Graduate Student Paper Award.

Several of our research assistants were able to present their ongoing projects at TTU's Undergraduate Research Conference sponsored by TTU True.
Research Assistant Chloe presented her poster titled, "Examining the Relationship Between Hypertension and Neurocognitive Functioning in a Unique Rural Sample."
Research Assistant Alayna presented her poster titled, "Examining Differences in Neurocognitive Functioning Between Hispanics who Preferred Assessments in Spanish vs. English: A Project Frontier Study."
