Your people are your profit. The way a business treats its team shows up in everything, from the culture inside the organization to the way customers and communities experience the work. When people feel supported, valued, and trusted, they are able to do stronger work and contribute in ways that move the whole business forward.

Investing in people is not separate from performance. It is part of building a business that is steady, sustainable, and rooted in something bigger than a bottom line.

At Bullhorn, brand work starts with people.

As a small team of writers, designers, and strategists, Bullhorn leads brand transformations for professional and financial service companies. But for Co-Founder Brad Flowers, the work is not just about how a brand looks or sounds. It’s about understanding the people behind it.

“We try to be responsive to people's actual needs and create policies that support people, our employees, and their families,” Brad shared. That same care carries into their client work. Bullhorn’s process is built around listening, thoughtful workshops, and helping organizations clearly express their expertise and point of view.

And when it comes to balancing purpose and profitability, Brad keeps it simple: “If you focus on the people and the purpose, profitability sort of takes care of itself.”

That’s business beyond profit.

Doing good is good business. When businesses invest in people, community, and the world around them, they build something stronger than a bottom line... They build trust, connection, and long-term value.

Meet Jana Wegener, Owner of 502 Equipment, and Erin Spalding, Brand Director of 502 Equipment, a Canopy member featured for our Good Business Spotlight series.

“502 Equipment is a dealer for vacuum trucks… big industrial trucks used to access utilities underground.” While most people don’t see their work day to day, it plays a critical role in keeping communities running.

“Plumbing is something most people don’t think about but is important.” That understanding drives how they show up for their customers—“whenever we have a service call, we drop everything we can to be there as quickly as possible,” helping cities and businesses stay up and running.

For Erin, it always comes back to people. “It’s really about people… how do we do right by the customer.” That shows up in intentional choices, like making sure there’s “always humans at the other end of the line,” creating real connection instead of automation.

As they grow, that commitment doesn’t change. “We keep it that way so that we can have that human touch,” making sure every customer feels like more than a transaction—like part of the 502 family.
