Is your physical therapist actually “about” it?
Our team trains like the people we serve and that changes everything.

Dave monologue here:

I completed the KDF 1/2 marathon last weekend.
It’s been about 11 years since I’ve run over 1-2 miles. I got the running itch again, and I honestly wanted something objectively tough to train towards.

I had run the KDF mini 2x before in the past, but wow! was it a rough transition to start running further distances again.

I started training in January, then had a scare of a stress reaction in my foot mid February. I was doing too good of a job shutting my mind off towards pain, and my bodies whispers turned into screams…

Thankfully a few weeks of rest (and a lot of special attention from Dr Devin and Dee) helped me get back on track…

Race Day was complicated. With traffic, I got to the start line almost 20 min late (they were shutting it down!). My warm up consisted of car seat warmers and a 2 block full bladder power walk.

Pacing was way too fast for the first 2 miles, but I ended up hitting solid stride between miles 2-7. Miles 7-10 were ok, mostly because I broke out my gummy bears. Miles 10-13 was nothing short of a grind. Pace dropped a bit and I felt like my calf was on the verge of doing something not good over the last mile.

All in all, I was happy that I finished well. The goal was to discipline and train my body to run 13 miles. We did it.

The race was more of a celebration of the training that took place which allowed my body to endure.

I’m thankful for my team in helping put me back together and often yelling at me to stretch / warm up / etc….and thankful for my family enduring the time sacrifices training and recovering requires.

October’s Urban Bourbon might be in the cards… We’ll see.
