In Lightning is Elegant Instrumental Rock. A Classical Quartet + an Innovative Bass Guitarist & Songwriter. Composer and bassist Ben Short musically grew up in school orchestras. So I introduce this one by briefly playing the beautiful theme from Jurassic Park by the great John Williams. Because that was the inspiration! But everything after that is original.
Oh wait, that’s not true either actually. I also briefly reference a Red Hot Chili Peppers song. (Can you identify it?!)
But other than that! T-Rex is my original work. :)

Art is made from an amalgamation of inputs filtered through you, the artist, who then produces an output. John Williams, RHCP, and who knows what else!
Thought to share 2:
I think John Williams is likely the single most influential melody writer of the last 100 years. Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and more! Globally AND generationally, his melodies have gotta be in more human heads than anyone else, right? Incredible.
I have a soft spot for “Circuit” as it was the very first In Lightning song! Not the first song I wrote, but the first fully composed and printed out for the full band, back in 2012.
I’ve always enjoyed the title, as for me it evokes electricity and energy moving through a circuit, which feels fitting for this brisk and progressive song.
But can I tell you where the title really came from? The original roadmap for the form of the song, all the sections and chords, were written down in blaze of inspiration hearing it in my head, on a two foot long piece of receipt printer paper while working as a clerk at a Circuit City. That quite ages the song, doesn’t it?
“In(L)terlude” is available on all streaming platforms! :)
