Repost from the president of USC HKSA:
—————————————————————————————
Dear USC Community,
An incident of racial discrimination occurred on campus this Sunday, where an undergraduate student from Hong Kong had eggs thrown at him and was attacked with racial slurs.
I regret to hear about this unfortunate incident which exemplifies the issue of racial prejudice on a diverse campus such as USC. On behalf of the Hong Kong Student Association, I would like to express our attitude of zero tolerance towards discrimination of any kind. We would like to call for attention not only to structural discrimination, but also to the harm of micro-aggressions. We sincerely welcome all our members to seek help from the Association when encountering mistreatment on campus.
As part of the international student body, we have faith in the Trojan family to hold respect to all students, regardless of race and ethnicity. While USC has welcomed the most ethnically diverse class throughout campus history this year, we hope that individuals in the school will cherish the opportunity to embrace and celebrate our differences in skin color and cultural experiences.
We believe that collective efforts such as the Diversity Campus Climate Resolution will gradually bring changes in the Trojan community. As USC students, we will, in unity, create an inclusive environment where there is no fear of judgment on our identity.
Sincerely,
Raymond Wong
President of USC Hong Kong Student Association
