78 years ago today, my grandfather stormed the beaches of Normandy on D Day where a mine blew up in his face, temporarily blinding him. Luckily, he recovered and later fathered my mother, who proudly served in the Airforce during the Vietnam era. Though I have not served, I have always had a deep respect and awe for those who have, and am profoundly saddened by the lack of care many servicemembers receive when they get home.

Four times as many veterans have died by su***de than in combat. For years, veterans who called crisis lines were kept on hold, and many even took their own lives in VA parking lots. This is what inspired our new short film Mask. The warriors we embrace abroad need support and love when they come home.
