Kiteley Neighborhood

"They Came To Stay," a publication of the St. Vrain Historical Society, Wm. John Kiteley reached the St. Vrain Valley in 1869 and established a homestead seven miles northeast of present day Longmont. Later, the family decided to move closer to the new high school and built a large brick house at the corner of Ninth and Collyer which still stands today. Wm. Kiteley was a founder of the First National Bank in Longmont and served on the School Board from 1895-1907. Kiteley's father, John Kiteley, was a prominent figure in Longmont history. He served on the Colony's Board of Trustees from 1873-90 and was President of Longmont in 1875. He was Treasurer of the Farmers' Protective Association, director of the Longmont Building and Loan Co., and Treasurer of Longmont Farmers Milling and Elevator Co.
