Good afternoon. By now I am sure everyone has seen the significant snowfall projected to begin in the overnight hours of Sunday morning. We currently have a 50% chance of accumulation of 9 -14” and a 30% chance of 14 – 18”.
Earlier today, our township professionals met to conduct a thorough review of our final emergency preparedness measures. Our team discussed contingency plans, resource allocation, and communication strategies to maintain the safety and well-being of our residents throughout the storm.
Some points:
Communications: Please keep continual watch for OEM and WTPD notifications. All storm information and notifications will be done via RAVE Alerts and WTPD Facebook posts. Please call 911 for emergencies and 908-876-3232 for non-emergencies.
Well-Checks: Our health department will be conducting wellness checks to all residents currently on the wellness checklist. Please keep an eye on your neighbors, especially your senior neighbors. Please call WTPD if any help is needed.
Sheltering: Our OEM and CERT team is ready to respond to any resident emergencies where sheltering is needed. We have cots from the Red Cross in the event overnight stays are required.
SnowMobile Team: Our snowmobile team is on-call should any emergency occur where roads may be impassable. This is coordinated through our PD and First Responders.
Plowing: We want to remind everyone that parking on any roadway is prohibited by township ordinance during snow events. This allows our Road Department to safely and efficiently plow and treat the streets. Vehicles left on the roadway will be ticketed and may be towed if necessary.
Our DPW is prepared for the cleanup of this major snowfall. Please be patient. The cleanup of this storm will take some time and should extend into Monday.
We are asking all residents to please stay off the roadways during periods of heavy snow and hazardous conditions. We encourage you to begin running errands now so you have what you need ahead of time including food, medications and other essentials.
Please expect potential road closures, downed trees and power outages throughout the area.
We have been in communication with JCP&L and will continue to communicate with them during the storm. If you lose power, please contact the power company directly as they will be operating in emergency mode.
Thank you to our DPW, our Police Department, our Fire Companies and First Aid & Rescue volunteers for your service to our community this weekend.
May God watch over all of us and keep everyone safe.
