Last night at the White House Correspondents Dinner an armed gunman charged a security checkpoint and shot a Secret Service agent before he was taken into custody. Thanks to the swift response by law enforcement, President Trump, First Lady and the President’s cabinet are unharmed. Also it appears no one else at the dinner was seriously injured, and the agent is recovering. Political violence of any sort is reprehensible and has no place in our country.
"In light of this evening's events, I ask that all Americans recommit with their hearts in resolving our differences peacefully."

HB5011 passed the House 107-0 because people understand what’s at stake. Policing works best when officers are focused on what’s actually happening in their communities.
HB5011 protects officers from being pushed toward quota-style expectations, while still holding departments to high standards of accountability and professionalism.

I joined Fox 32 last night to talk about HB 5011, my police quota bill.
It passed the House 107-0, a clear message that public safety comes first. This bill protects the integrity of policing, strengthens accountability, and helps build trust between officers and the communities they serve.

Had the opportunity to meet with the Teamsters Joint Council 25, and I’m grateful for the time to sit down and have real conversations about the issues that matter most to working men and women across our state.
The Teamsters represent hardworking people who keep Illinois moving every single day. We talked through the challenges they’re facing, the importance of safe working conditions, and making sure their voices are heard in Springfield. These are the kinds of conversations that shape better policy and stronger communities.
I’ll keep showing up, listening, and fighting for policies that respect the work people do and the families they provide for.

Last week, I was proud to see HB5011 pass the House unanimously.
As a veteran police officer of nearly 20 years, I’ve seen firsthand what happens when numbers start driving decisions. Our job was never meant to hit quotas. It’s grounded in judgment, integrity, and serving our communities the right way.
The general assembly passed the original quota bill in 2014. But the practice has continued by police administrators under the guise of “contacts”. The public has no appetite for police quotas and clearly the General Assembly feels the same with its 107-0 passage in the House.
Now it moves to the Senate with maximum momentum!

I’ve spent nearly 20 years in law enforcement. I know what it takes to catch dangerous criminals. HB 5521 is reckless and dangerous. It strips away the tools that solve crimes—facial recognition, fingerprints, voice ID, eye scans—and ties officers’ hands while crime keeps rising.
Facial recognition was used to identify the Venezuelan migrant charged with killing Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman on March 19. Even so, Illinois Democrats are doing everything they can to handcuff law enforcement and coddle criminals!
Imagine having to tell a victim’s family the technology that could have identified the suspect was taken off the table by lawmakers. That’s exactly what this bill does! It literally takes us back to the stone age in fighting crime, making our communities less safe. I stand with law enforcement and I will fight this!
