It is no April Fools’ joke that we had an absolutely WILD day yesterday here at Ole Remix. We DID intake six puppies, and we DID get an emergency call about a cat in distress. We were so busy with intakes or real emergencies… we forgot to fake one or pull a prank. 😅 That doesn't mean that we didn't have some fun, because the puppies we took in are nothing short of perfect.

Originally, we were supposed to take in seven puppies, we were calling it our lucky #7 litter. Turns out, puppy #7 was lucky, because the Oklahoma foster who orginally took them in decided to adopt one of them. After a long day of being shuffled from car to car during transport, getting vaccines, flea and tick meds, and meeting a whole lot of new people and animals, the remaining six pups finally got to settle in and rest here in NE.

The other half of yesterday’s story.... one of our volunteers got a call about a cat in serious distress. A friend of a friend had a cat with a gaping leg wound who had been urinating blood, for quite some time. We immediately stepped in, brought her into rescue, and got her over to our friends at Clocktower Animal Clinic. She’s now on antibiotics, pain meds, and got her leg stitched up and is already on the mend (video in the comments). Our sweet tortie girl spent the night resting comfortably in the bathroom at one of our volunteers’ homes, safe, warm, and finally getting the care she deserves and has now transitioned to her posh "cat suite" at another foster's home.

And because rescue never slows down, we’re already gearing up for the Mother of All Garage Sales on April 10th & 11th! We’ll have a booth set up to help raise funds for moments exactly like these, litter intakes, unexpected emergencies and lifesaving care. If you have any new or lightly used items you’d like to donate in or around Lincoln, we would be incredibly grateful, and we’ll even personally come pick them up during the middle of next week to make it easy for you. No drive to goodwill necessary, let us take your spring cleaning extras.

Sorry we missed the chance to mess with y’all yesterday, but thank you, as always, for sticking with us. 💖

Our stocky little guy, Ludo, who you may have seen on our Petfinder or Facebook, has a short nose and short legs, but the thing he’s been most short on in his short life is luck.
This sweet boy is already battling several bulldog related health issues, ranging from heart and palate issues to skin problems. And now, things have taken a serious turn. As of yesterday, Ludo began experiencing severe gastrointestinal issues, and it’s likely he will need emergency surgery today.
We are already over $1,000 in diagnostics trying to figure out what’s wrong, and the cost of surgery will be significant. But even without a forever home Ludo is so incredibly loved in our remix family, and we want nothing more than to give this deserving young pup a chance at a happy, healthy life and a forever home. With the love and light that he exudes even the crustiest and most bitter of Chihuahuas want to be his friend and he has never met a stranger.
If you’re able, please consider donating through Facebook, PayPal or Venmo to help us help Ludo.
Thank you, for supporting this sweet boy when he needs it most.

Here he is. The last vestiges of the extremely over-crowded cat colony we worked over a year ago. The lone ranger. The relic. A marlboro man, if you will. An enigma, a pain in the ass. Or the arm. Or your hip. This is none other than Gray Brother, and this man has been wearing us out for the last year.
With an introduction like that, we’re sorry he’s not better looking. Sure, at first glance, there’s some cuteness rattling a few dusty corners of our hearts. His adorable fluffy face, his beanie boo eyes, one glazed over from maybe time, maybe sorcery, maybe both. That squishy face gives you the illusion of safety when you’re interacting with him- an illusion Gray Brother was quite dedicated to shattering while we were evaluating him in his early days in rescue. As a man who had relished his outdoor survivalist lifestyle prior to our intervention, Gray Brother spent the first few weeks seething in captivity in the back of his tiered cage like an Independence Day scientist-strangling alien speaking through telepathy. “Reeeelease meeeeeee...” And one day, whilst cleaning his litter box, we did release him. Only not on purpose. What followed could be categorized as a frank exchange of ideas and ideals between Gray Bro and ourselves, and after an...adventurous... twenty-minute think-tank, said exchange culminated in a volunteer certain that her hip was dislocated with a bleeding arm and a throbbing left butt cheek, while Gray Bro went immediately back to drawing board to plan his next escape attempt.
Over the course of the next several weeks, Gray Bro began to ease up on some of his convictions. Turns out that living in a climate controlled environment with readily available food and water, away from the threat of predators isn’t such a drag after all. Huh. Who knew? He chilled out on the whole “hating our freaking guts” business, too. Granted, Gray Bro didn’t have a ton of choices when it came to acclimating to us. He got sicker than hell in his first few weeks with here, which required some extensive vetting and medicating- all things that required handling. And to his total surprise, his lunatic captors weren’t so bad after all. When we weren’t chasing him down after another escape, turns out we were actually pretty cool. We had some tasty treat tubes, our ear skritching game was ON POINT, and slowly but surely, he was feeling better. But the slow part was worrisome. In the course of trying to track down just why the guy couldn’t get healthy and stay that way, we learned that Gray Brother was infected with FIV. Some folks hear FIV and associate it directly with Victorian Wasting Disease or some other hyper-contagious fungus of the bungus that will destroy a cat and your credit score and your life in general, but that is simply not the case. Cats can, and often do, live long full lives despite the virus (and despite their hobbies, GRAY BRO) if they lead an indoor life with good eats and routine vet care.
Now you might be wondering why we have invested a year of our lives into a sick cat who isn’t particularly fond of people, and the answer is simple- we're suckers. Some folks look at Gray Bro and see a trainwreck, but we see the undeniable possibility that this rambling man of the outdoors could lay down his matches and swiss army knife and spend the rest of his life in a sunbeam, recuperating from a life he never should have had to endure. He’s halfway there already, moseying out from his hideout when the food lady enters the room, swirling between her legs for snacks and pats. What he needs now is someone like us- a like-minded sucker that refuses to quit on him. Someone who is willing to share their space with a fella that will plot their demise at first- but only at first. Someone who also has a thing for a beat to crap Tom with a face that tells a thousand stories of survival. Someone who is willing to share their life and their light with a guy who’ll likely never trust you 100%, but he’ll certainly hit the upper 90s. Are you the person Gray Brother may not want at the moment but certainly needs? Apply to take kinda sick, kinda beat up, but totally adorable Gray Brother at thephoenixremixrescue.com!

Valentine's day was just this past weekend. While many of you were spending time with the ones you love, Cameron was being returned to us at no fault of his own. 😔 He's at a fantastic boarding facility right now. And don't get us wrong- this place is ran by absolute saints. But it's still not HOME to Cam, and historically, he doesn't do the best in these types of settings. We have to get his next adoption right.

Cameron is a 7‑year‑old Spaniel mix with soft ears, soulful eyes, pouty bottom lip and a heart that’s been through more than he ever deserved. He has been returned to the rescue not because he did anything wrong, but because despite how upfront we were about Cam, he was still put in situations with small children- one of very few things he doesn't like. This time, we’re making sure his needs are honored so he never has to pack his bags again.

Cameron is a gentle, affectionate companion who lives for two things:
a warm couch to curl up on and a long, peaceful walk with his favorite human. He’s the kind of dog who settles in beside you like he’s known you forever, soaking up every bit of calm and comfort he can find.

CAMERON NEEDS A CHILD FREE ENVIRONMENT — this is non‑negotiable. If kids come to visit, Cameron needs to be kenneled. It's that simple. He’s made his feelings very clear.
- A cat‑free home — he prefers not to share his kingdom with felines.
- A quiet, steady environment — he thrives where life moves at a soft, predictable pace.
- Humans who will commit to him for life — no more returns, no more upheaval, just love and stability.

Cameron isn’t a high‑maintenance dog. He doesn’t need constant activity or a bustling household. He just wants a peaceful place to nap, a human who understands him, and a promise that this home will be his last.

If you’re looking for a loyal, snuggly companion who will happily join you on leisurely walks and then melt into your couch cushions, Cameron may be the perfect match. He’s ready for a fresh start with someone who sees him, respects him, and will never let him down again.

Cameron is waiting for the person who will finally be his forever. Is that YOU? Apply to end this madness and be Cam's FOREVER HOME at thephoenixremixrescue.com

This stretch of good weather feels like a small win heading into Valentine’s week ☀️ We hope you’re getting a chance to enjoy the sunshine, we know Liberty, Turbo and Calvin definitely are.

Turbo is finally available for adoption after about three months in rescue. You may remember the large scale breeding situation we talked about a few months back.... Well Turbo and Calvin came from that, terrified of people and completely shut down, but with time and consistency, Turbo has made real progress and now seeks out his foster mom for attention. We think he’s ready for a patient, loving home of his own.

Liberty, our little mystery mix, joined us more recently. She came in with a pretty rough UTI for such a young pup but is on the mend and loving life, exploring, playing, zooming 🏎💨 and hanging with the pack. Although she still has a few days of antibiotics, she’s ready for someone to apply to be her forever.

For any who may wonder about Calvin, he’s still pretty spooky about humans and isn’t posted for adoption just yet. He prefers being nearby, not touched, and is moving forward at his own pace.

As a reminder, if you'd like to spread some love to animals like these in our rescue, a $5 Venmo donation (dedicated to someone you love) through the 13th earns one a special Valentine’s treat, possibly a heart shaped piece of cheese. 🧀💕
