I finished up a session on Friday and the client asked "What did you do"? How do you explain to someone that you can feel tension and holding in the tissues of the body. That after 27 years of study and tens of thousands of hours of touching people, the body just talks to me. It is no longer a single modality but a collection of skills and a specialized level of touch that allows the clients body to let go and drop into a freer way of being.
The work becomes something more when the practitioner has many languages the body recognizes, ( anatomy, systems, energetics) and an integral sense of what embodiment feels like inside themselves.
What do i do???? I listen and respond with intelligent touch. I offer options and let the body decide what it wants to do.
The tricky part is giving all that a name...
