🚨 THE GOLD STANDARD IN LITERACY TRAINING: EXTENDED! 🚨
If you are an elementary literacy educator, this isn't just another professional development workshop—this is the definitive training on reading comprehension. While many programs focus on the "what," Dr. Kay Wijekumar’s research-backed approach focuses on the "how," providing the most critical instructional shift a teacher can make.
We are thrilled to announce that due to overwhelming demand, the registration deadline has been EXTENDED to May 15th!
Why is this the "Top Tier" of Literacy PD?
Most comprehension strategies ask students to "find" information. Dr. Wijekumar’s KAT (Knowledge Acquisition & Transformation) framework teaches students to generate meaning through logical text structures. The results aren't just good; they are industry-leading.
Unrivaled Impact: Recent trials showed effect sizes as high as 1.32—shattering standard growth expectations.
WWC Validated: This framework is featured by the What Works Clearinghouse and meets the highest standards of evidence-based practice.
The Missing Link: This is the bridge between phonics and true deep-reading mastery that every K-5 classroom needs to close the achievement gap.
What You’ll Master:
The KAT Framework: Deep-dive into the strategies that move the needle for all learners.
Bilingual Excellence: Actionable tools specifically designed for both English and Spanish learners.
Structural Mastery: Stop hunting for the "main idea" and start building it.

Three years.
This weekend, we wrapped up our 3rd Annual Conference for The Reading League Michigan — and it was a resounding success. But here’s the truth:
A nonprofit is only as strong as the people who sit on its board.
And I am overwhelmed with gratitude for ours.
The board of The Reading League Michigan is not a group of names on a website. They are servant leaders in the truest sense. They are the hands, the feet, the shoulders, and the heart of this mission.
They arrive early.
They stay late.
They lift what’s heavy.
They solve what’s hard.
They protect the integrity of the work.
They personify what it means to serve something bigger than themselves.
Our mission is clear:
To empower ALL Michigan educators to ensure ALL students become proficient readers and writers.
That mission does not move forward because of one person. It moves because of a team — a team willing to carry the weight, make the hard calls, do the unseen work, and keep showing up.
To my colleagues, friends, and boardmates: thank you for your humility, grit, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to literacy for all. Michigan is stronger because of you.
Onward.
