On this week's re-release episode of Power Supply Articles On-the-Go, Bob Yokl describes the importance of diagnosing your healthcare Supply Chain challenges before trying to implement a solution:
"The simple truth is that we, as an industry, are treating symptoms of a problem more often than the actual cause of the behavior with so-so results. To correct this behavior, diagnose before you prescribe a solution. This will enable you to root out the causes of your cost and quality issues and then stamp out all waste and inefficiencies in your supply streams..."

Clean data is not a back-office detail. It is a supply chain strategy.
In healthcare, data hygiene directly impacts how well teams can manage contracts, prevent stockouts, respond to recalls, control spend, and make decisions with confidence.
When item masters are outdated, fields are missing, units of measure are inconsistent, or duplicate records pile up, the downstream effects show up quickly:
1. Backorders become harder to predict.
2. Off-contract spend becomes easier to miss.
3. Recall response becomes slower.
4. Analytics become less reliable.
5. AI and forecasting tools become only as strong as the data feeding them.
The best supply chain technology in the world cannot overcome dirty data.
Before we automate, optimize, or forecast, we have to ask a simpler question:
Do we trust the data?
Because in the healthcare supply chain, clean data is not just operationally important. It is connected to cost, resilience, and patient safety.

Artificial intelligence has officially graduated from a conference-stage buzzword to a line item in the supply chain budget.
The question is no longer whether to invest, but where investment actually changes outcomes.
There's a meaningful difference between AI that surfaces insights for a human to act on and AI that's trusted to make the call autonomously.
Some teams are seeing the fastest returns in demand forecasting; others are applying AI to contract and spend analytics, and a growing number are betting on the operational layer, including automated inventory and replenishment that never sleeps.
The next 24 months will separate pilots from production systems. Where is AI most likely to earn its keep inside your supply chain?

Clinical supply rooms are more than storage spaces.
When supplies are hard to find, poorly labeled, overstocked, understocked, or organized in a way that does not match clinical workflow, the impact shows up quickly: wasted time, frustrated staff, unnecessary workarounds, and delayed care.
A well-designed supply room should make the right item easy to find, easy to restock, and easy to manage.
Here are five practical ways to improve supply room efficiency:
✅ Organize supplies by clinical use
✅ Use clear, clinician-friendly labels
✅ Maximize shelf space without adding clutter
✅ Standardize layouts across rooms
✅ Use par levels and reorder triggers to prevent stockouts
The goal is simple: fewer supply interruptions, less wasted time, and better support for the clinical teams who depend on these spaces every day.
