Instagram vs reality
I took these after a workout, minutes apart. One photo posed and flexed, the other relaxed.

I used to follow a lot of social media accounts for fitness inspiration. I’d think “wow, I want to look like her” and hit the follow button.

Over the past couple of years I began to realize how a lot of this content largely made me feel inadequate and insecure. Following these accounts led me to have a really poor body image.

It took time for me to realize that I was only seeing from them what they wanted me to see. Posing, controlled lighting and photoshopping their pictures.

But I was seeing my body with clothes and without, at all times of day in all different kinds of lighting. There’s no fair comparison between myself and “fitspo” instagram pages. Same goes for you.

I’ve promised myself to do my best to create a platform to teach and uplift people. Overall, I want to have a positive influence on the people that see my content.

I’ve unfollowed a good number of pages that weren’t positive influences while following instagrams that help me feel better about myself.

Sleep is really important and all too easy to sacrifice, especially in an era when we’re more accustomed to late night scrolling that can prevent us from getting to sleep.

Sleep and rest are just as important for your body as exercise and mindfulness. The recommended amount of sleep is between 7-9 hours a night. But this varies by person. Personally, if I get 6.5 hours of quality sleep, I feel great the next day.

If you’re chronically sleep deprived, consider the important of getting enough sleep and brainstorm a plan to get more zzz’s in.

Getting in the gym for a workout will make you feel amazing but physical fitness is a multifaceted approach.
