Live along the Columbia Gorge, it’ll be fun….said no farmer 😆

06:41 Sunday - As of 12z (05 PDT), the bomb cyclone has a minimum pressure of 943 hPa (!!) and is moving toward the east. Rain has made it to about Walla Walla, and some lightning is being observed offshore.

This storm is roughly equivalent to a category 4 hurricane, but because it is larger geographically than a hurricane is it only has sustained winds at about category 1 speeds. Still, this is a very strong cyclone and may set a record for the lowest air pressure recorded in that part of the Pacific.

In our area, rain is already moving in. This first blast of rain is likely to be the biggest one, lasting until early afternoon. Showers are possible throughout the rest of the day.

Most of the area will be breezy, but the slopes of the Blue Mountains will be quite windy. Look for wind gusts to 70 mph at times near the foot of the mountains at places like Walla Walla, Milton-Freewater, and Pendleton. Travel will be difficult in this and other parts of Oregon, so if you need to travel be sure to check the forecast and road conditions.

I will probably make a few more posts today. This is a truly historic cyclone and is fascinating to see, but it bears repeating that this will not be historic for our region.
