While traditional spinal fusion surgery is considered to be an extensive procedure, requiring general anesthesia and a hospital stay, Awake Spinal Fusion is a minimally invasive procedure that doesn’t require general anesthesia. A combination of local (spinal) anesthesia along with a novel regional anesthesia protocol which results in significantly less pain and less narcotics. Most patients are able to walk a few hours after surgery.
