This could have killed my peonies!!
Planting peonies on the North facing slope of a property could mean its too cold for them to survive. Typically (in the northern hemisphere) the south side of the property is gold. It's prime real estate. It gets the most summer sun. It's the warmest. It's where you put your garden.
So why did I plant my peonies on the North side? Did I not know better???
Turns out the direct sun in the summer is actually on the north side of our property!! It hit me one night as I was drawing out the planting plan for our Homestead. I wanted to include the sun path each month. As I drew, it starting in January, my brain stopped computing. I had to run and ask Ryan if my estimations could possibly be right? Could the north side actually be the prime spot for my blooming queens???
Yep! Every sunny day this summer (all 4 😂) I watched my ladies soak up the Alaskan sun. Some days for 18 hours they were lit up. 🏵️
This exemifies the need for a detailed site analysis before you put in your hard work. So much can be solved on paper before ever spending a dime.
