At a recent community event, a parent asked: What is the single most important action we can take to stop child exploitation?
Talk to your kids early, often, and honestly.
Here’s the reality:
1 in 5 children are s*xually solicited online before the age of 18
Online enticement reports increased over 300 percent in recent years
The average age of first contact by predators is as young as 11 to 13 years old
1. Predators rely on silence.
They target children who don’t recognize grooming, secrecy, or manipulation.
They succeed when adults believe, “my child would never fall for that.”
2. Kids can’t avoid danger they don’t understand.
When children know
what grooming looks like
how predators build trust
why secrecy is a red flag
what to do when something feels wrong
They are far harder to exploit.
3. Conversations create safety before intervention is needed.
Most exploitation happens through
private messages
gaming chats
social media direct messages
manipulation disguised as friendship
No app can replace awareness.
4. Prevention is ongoing not one talk.
Short, age-appropriate conversations build trust.
And trust is what keeps kids talking instead of hiding.

The FBI is urging people who were s*x trafficked through classified ads on Backpage or CityXGuide—and suffered financial losses as a result—to apply for compensation through a special Department of Justice (DOJ) program before the March 31, 2026, deadline at backpageremission.com.
Protect the vulnerable—their way of life depends on it.

Recidivism means going back into harm after getting out.
For survivors of human trafficking, freedom isn’t just about escape—it’s about what comes next.
Without safe housing, financial stability, trauma support, and community, many survivors are left vulnerable to being pulled back into exploitation.

A recent law enforcement effort, Operation Safe Return, led to the recovery of 37 missing teenagers (ages 14–17) across California and neighboring states.
This operation brought together federal, state, and local agencies to locate children classified as “critically missing”—meaning they were at high risk for violence, trafficking, or exploitation.
Authorities made 7 arrests, including one suspect linked to child s*x trafficking.
Tragically, officials confirmed that some of the recovered teens had experienced exploitation or assault while they were missing—underscoring just how urgent and serious these cases are.
Every child recovered is a life pulled back from danger—and a family finally given answers.
Operations like this often happen quietly, but they serve as a powerful reminder: there are people working every day to protect vulnerable children and bring them home.
