IDEAS FOR MOBILITY ISSUES

Statistically, the older we get the more prone we are to falling and causing serious bodily injury. According to WebMd, nearly three in three people over the age of 65 will fall at least once per year, and 10-15% of those falls will result in serious injury. This is a direct result of: loss of bone density, loss of muscle mass, deteriorating eyesight, lack of concentration (due to chronic pain and or fatigue), among other issues. Additionally, those suffering from the effects of the above will then have a tendency to refrain from outdoor activities, which can thus lead to increased loss of bone density and muscular degeneration, as well as leading to the creation of phobias.

So, the question blossoms: "What can we do to help prevent the statistics?" Well, there are a number of remedies we can implement into our lives that will assist our bodies as they age. The most common physical thing we can do is to fortify our more immediate surroundings - such as our homes, and motor vehicles with items such as, but not limited to:

1.) Handrails in the bathtub.

2.) Remodeling bathrooms with Walk-In Showers.

3.) Lever Door Handles.

4.) Adding additional light switches so that you will always have a nearby source of light in the darkness of night.

5.) Using brighter light bulbs to ensure visibility.

6.) Non-Slip mats for standing showers and bathtubs.

7.) Ramps for inside-outside entrance and exit doors.

8.) Lower height range cabinets and drawers.

9.) Light Switches that glow in the dark.

10.) Keep items off the floor and out of walkways to ensure clear paths.

11.) Nightlights

We can of course always employ up-to-date and regular eye doctor visits to ensure eyeglasses are amended to the appropriate prescription, and have appropriate footwear that better assist our daily footsteps.

Aside from equipping our homes, surroundings, and physical bodies with more "user-friendly" apparatus, those suffering with mobility issues may also want to reassess their daily nutrition and hydration.

Simply by keeping hydrated at all times throughout the day (unless otherwise strictly prohibited by a licensed physician for medical reasons) can ensure a reduction in joint and body pains, thus a reduction in mental stress that will help with concentration, and especially for those suffering with arthritis, menopause, or any other joint and bone density associated pain.

A lot of body aches and pains can sometimes (unless medically diagnosed) be the symptoms of poor diet. Consuming a poor diet will only add to the increasing impact age-related pain can have on the body. For instance: Foods that are fried or excessively greasy, processed, or a high consumption of chicken (non-organic), which is filled with added hormones, antibiotics, and Omega 6 fatty acids, that have a negative impact on inflammation within the human body. Consuming alcohol, a lack of protein, a lack of fibre. All these provide a considerable number of variables that play a vital role in the level of pain and discomfort we experience as we age.

Now, I want to state before moving forward that certain levels of pains and discomfort are a given with any human body. Anyone who says differently isn't telling the truth. We are all getting older, and the older we get, the more pressure and impact we place on our body daily. It's science and fact.

For those (who are medically able - and for those who are not consuming any medications that will cause contraindications. Please check with your physician), consider adding spices such as turmeric, ginger, and garlic to your foods. Did you know that turmeric, ginger and garlic all fight inflammation which is caused by free-radicals. Garlic can also help balance your healthy gut bacteria.

Turmeric's main ingredient is curcumin. Curcumin is an (inflammation blocker).

Ginger inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory substances. Ginger also reduces oxidative stress (the result of having an excess amount of free radicals in the human body).

Garlic is high in Inulin, which is a form of non-digestible carbohydrate often referred to as (functional fiber). This functional fiber feeds the good bacteria in your digestive system (or gut) and acts as fuel for those bacteria to increase productivity, which in-turn helps your gut to function better.
