This time of year used to bring one question to the surface for me.
“Did I do enough?”
Enough meetings.
Enough late nights.
Enough extra effort.
Enough visibility to earn the raise or promotion I hoped for.
I’d replay the year in my head, measuring myself against expectations I was never fully clear on—
Waiting to see if my hard work would be noticed.
What I didn’t realize then is that this question isn’t about effort.
It’s about how value is interpreted.
