Those colorful berries? They’re a warning sign.
Often mistaken for native grapes. Don’t let the look fool you.

Porcelain Berry spreads fast, climbs aggressively, and smothers everything in its path 🌿

Birds love the berries, which means it spreads even faster.

🐦 The best way to attract chickadees isn't by adding another bird feeder. It's by planting a native oak.

Native oaks support an incredible diversity of caterpillars, which become the primary food source for chickadee nestlings each spring. By planting native trees, you're creating the foundation of a healthy food web that benefits birds, pollinators, and countless other wildlife.

On Long Island, native White Oak, Black Oak, and Scarlet Oak are all excellent choices for building bird-friendly habitat.

Small changes in your landscape can make a lasting difference for local wildlife.

🌿 Interested in creating a bird-friendly property? Spadefoot Ecosystem Solutions can help design native landscapes that support the species that call Long Island home.

Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸

For 250 years, this country has been shaped by its landscapes, waterways, forests, and wildlife communities.

Here on Long Island we have 1100 miles of shoreline, 125 rivers, creeks and streams, The Pine Barrens, Fire Island, a glorified sandbar deposited by 'The Great Melt' at the end of the last Ice Age, starting 18,000 years ago. Spadefoot Ecosystems Solutions is dedicated to preserving this unique place in our country --- what the glaciers left, and what role its played over our nation's history.

SES is planting for the next 250 years, one of living landscapes, cleaner water, thriving wildlife, and communities that are sustainable grow alongside nature. We can make it to 500 if we can get a little dirt under our fingernails.

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July from all of us at Spadefoot Ecosystem Solutions.
