Between my time of playing kickball in an empty lot, watching Saturday morning cartoons, daydreaming at the sky, and chasing dragonflies at dusk, this is the lady that taught me how to make tamales. This is Emila, my abuela, my ❤️, and the soul of CASA MASA. Born and raised in Texas, March is her birthday month. Though no longer physically here, she is always with me. Te extraño, abuela.

I use to see these Tecojote shrubs (Mexican Hawthorns) as a kid running around my Dad's nursery. I wish I would have learned more about plants from him, but it was just too @* #* hot outside. I preferred bussing tables with the A/C on at our family's little restaurant...lol. Oh yea...I made some sweet Tamales de Tejocotes con Requesón tonight! They were even better when cooled and reheated on the comal!
