How important and often should you change your A/C filters?
General Recommendations:
1. Fiberglass Filters: These basic filters typically need to be replaced every 30 days due to their lower quality and shorter lifespan.
2.Pleated Filters: A step up in quality, pleated filters can last up to 90 days before needing replacement.
Factors Influencing Replacement Frequency
1. Household Pets: If you have pets, you may need to change your filters more frequently, possibly every 2 months, as pet hair and dander can clog filters quickly.
2. Air Quality: Poor indoor air quality, such as smoking indoors or high dust levels, can lead to faster clogging of filters. In such cases, checking the filter monthly is advisable.
3. Seasonal Changes: During peak usage seasons (like summer and winter), filters may need to be changed more often due to increased system operation.
* Regularly changing your AC filters is crucial for maintaining good air quality and ensuring your HVAC system operates efficiently. A clogged filter can lead to increased energy consumption and may shorten the lifespan of your HVAC equipment.
* Poor indoor air quality can lead to serious health issues, including respiratory problems, allergies, and chronic diseases.

When replacing an old air conditioning (AC) unit with a new one, it’s essential to check (and sometimes change) the electrical breaker size because:
⚡ 1. Different electrical requirements
Every AC unit has a specific electrical load — how much current (amperage) it draws during normal operation and startup.
Newer units often have higher efficiency, which can mean lower or different current requirements than your old one.
If the new unit’s rated current doesn’t match the old breaker size, the existing breaker might be too large or too small.
Too large → The breaker might not trip when it should, risking overheating and fire.
Too small → The breaker could trip repeatedly, even though the unit is working correctly.
⚙️ 2. Code compliance and manufacturer requirements
The National Electrical Code (NEC) and HVAC manufacturers specify acceptable breaker sizes for each model.
Each AC unit’s nameplate lists the “Minimum Circuit Ampacity (MCA)” and “Maximum Overcurrent Protection (MOCP).”
The breaker must be sized at or below the MOCP and the wire gauge must match the MCA.
Installing a breaker outside these specs violates code and may void the equipment warranty.
🔌 3. Proper protection for wiring and components
Circuit breakers protect not just the equipment but also the wiring that feeds it.
If the new AC draws less current but you keep a larger breaker (from the old system), the wires could overheat before the breaker trips — a serious fire hazard.
💰 4. Energy efficiency and reliability
Correct breaker sizing ensures that:
The compressor and fan motors receive stable power.
Nuisance trips and voltage drops are minimized.
The system runs efficiently and lasts longer.

Have tunnels/small holes in your attic insulation?
These are rodent tunnels. 🐀😖
Rodents in your attic can cause structural damage by chewing wood and supports, create serious fire hazards by gnawing electrical wires, ruin insulation for lower energy efficiency, and spread diseases through their urine and droppings which also contaminate the attic space. They can also damage ductwork and plastic pipes, leading to costly repairs and issues with your HVAC or plumbing.
