When I started practicing and studying yoga a few years ago, I began collecting items that spoke to me, things that helped me feel more aligned with my connection to my Source. I had them strewn around randomly, but once I landed on the space that was to become my special spot for meditation, I gathered them in close. My space was taking shape, but was so unorganized! Then I found a trunk that my

It’s not us against them. There are not two sides. We are all suffering. We are all doing the best we can.
Each of us is informed by our own life experiences, our deeply textured cultures, what we’ve learned from our families and the people in our lives, our vision of the world. There are as many “sides” as there are people.
Violence is a release valve for the anger that we can’t process. Anger is a natural human response to not being heard or seen. Anger is a byproduct of fear – fear around what happens when things aren’t the way we think they should be, fear of change, fear of losing something dear to us, fear of the loss of who we think we are, fear for our very lives and that of those we love.
But there is no us, there is no them. We are all the same. We each process things through our individual lenses using whatever mental and emotional tools we possess. Instead of throwing rocks from our side, what if we laid down our opinions and just saw each other? Instead of fighting, what if we led with kindness? It takes courage to let go and open to possibilities instead of hiding behind what we think we know.
It will be painful to our egos to let go of the attachment to old identities, but the only way to evolve is to do the difficult internal work. The old must be destroyed to birth the new. It won’t be easy. Allow the uncertainty and fear to be there and make room for whatever new perspectives emerge.
Change starts with each one of us. We have to be willing to see what we haven’t seen, listen to what we haven’t heard, open our hearts to things we don’t understand. We are not separate. We are one.
