I just got the sad news that my old friend and customer Jim Carola has passed away. Jim was the news director for the radio station KILT in Houston for many years as well as the announcer for the Houston Oilers games and then the Texans. Jim came to me at my barn in Simonton and said he had been invited to participate in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Celebrity Cutting, I asked him how much riding experience he had and he said “none” Well I started giving him lessons and we got him through it. Jim loved it so much that within a year he had sold his home in Houston and bought a small ranch not more than 3 or 4 miles from my barn. Jim went on to buy several horses and cutting became his lifelong passion. Jim owned a Docs Hickory stud ( Cool
Hand Hickory) that Trey hauled one year and made the Top Ten in the Open which I think was the highlight of Jim’s cutting career. You were a good man Jim ,and a better friend. You’re now where the horses are good, the ground is soft and the cattle are fresh. We’ll see you on the other side my friend 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️
