Although lead instructor Michael Whitmire was not born into Latin culture, he has embraced the rich music and spicy dances as if they are his own. Also known as "Big10" and "the Dancing Lawyer," Michael has been social dancing for more than 30 years, and has spent much of his spare time since the year 2000 involved in learning, teaching, performing, and choreographing. Michael believes that the joy of Latin dancing should be accessible to everyone, and he truly enjoys spreading the knowledge he has gained. In addition to helping individuals feel more comfortable on the dance floor at a party or a club, Michael has also aided couples looking to make the "first dance" at their wedding a memorable occasion. As a choreographer, Michael's creations have appeared onstage at the Wortham Center, Houston's International Festival, the Texas Salsa Congress, the Houston Salsa Congress, and various other venues in Texas and California. Dancers from SALSA GRANDE have also appeared on local television several times over the years.
